AT&T breaks sales records with iPhone 3GS launch

August 12, 2009 Computer News

The first day the Apple iPhone 3GS went on sale was the biggest sales day ever for AT&T, according to an internal iPhone-Archigraphs_512x512memo sent to its company employees (which has since been published in various blogs.)

iPhone Day 2009 beat out the two previous iPhone launch days, and it also surpassed traditionally heavy retail sales days such as Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, and December 26th, the day after Christmas.

The new iPhone may not have added a whole bunch of new features, but it seems to have certainly been a crowd pleaser. It is reported that Apple and AT&T needed about two and half months to sell one million phones, whereas the iPhone 3GS hit the ‘million’ phone sales mark in just the first weekend.

Apple won’t divulge sales figures until later this financial year, when it reports its quarterly earnings.

AT&T have only said that it sold “hundreds of thousands” of iPhones during its pre-order process. Nto surpriasingly, the company have indicated that iPhone 3GS sales were off the charts.

Judging form the sales projections and reports, one can safely say that Apple got it right this time orund!
