Backing up Firefox and Thunderbird profiles with MozBackup

Many computer users feel an affiliation with Mozilla products! Including the likes of Firefox, Thunderbird, Sunbird, SeaMonkey, Flock and many more.

If you’re fit into this category, you might want to check out a program called MozBackup. It’s a very simple application that basically allows for you to backup the profiles Mozilla or Mozilla-powered apps.

Below is a list of all the programs MozBackup  is currently compatible with:

  • Firefox 1.0 – 3.6
  • Thunderbird 1.0 – 3.0
  • Sunbird 0.3 – 0.9
  • Flock 1.0 – 2.0
  • Postbox 1.0 – 1.1
  • SeaMonkey 1.0a – 2.0
  • Mozilla Suite 1.7 – 1.7.x
  • Spicebird 0.4 – 0.8
  • Songbird 1.0
  • Netscape 7.x, 9.x
  • Wyzo

MozBackup allows the user to backup and restore bookmarks, contacts, browsing history, mail, extensions, cache files, and more.

MozBackup also has a command line interface, allowing for the actual creation of batch scripts to backup Mozilla profiles.
Once a backup is complete, a window with the status of the backups will appear. The next step is to click >Finish< to close the program.

Overall, MozBackup is a very straight-forward and easy to use application. For the technically minded individuals, the command line feature can be used to schedule automatic backups of all Mozilla profiles.
