Control and Protect Windows Desktop Settings

December 23, 2009 Computer Safety Tip

When I was growing up in the world of computers, I remember wondering how to change the desktop settings. When I was still in my learning phase I knew that this could be done, but I wasn’t exactly sure how. Don’t laugh at me but the truth of the matter is that I didn’t even think of going to Google and researching the matter.

I have been wondering this for a good couple of years, but was never something that I actually did anything about. Yes I was lazy and it wasn’t that important in my life. Until I became the computer nerdy I am today, I was actually not very good at finding stuff out, that I needed to know. I was a baby in the world of computers and simple things like this would fascinate me for hours on end.

The great news is that here I am here years later and I have improved. Not only have I improved but today I made a real improvement. I found an awesome utility which is named Deskman, which can be used for this very purpose. It solves some of the problems which I used to wonder about, all those years ago.

Suppose if we don’t want right click to be enabled on the desktop, we can check Context Menu under Desktop. This will make the selected action as protected. Check whatever options you want to protect and then press Ctrl + D. This will apply the settings to your desktop. It is not only limited to desktop but it can also do a lot of other functions. In short it’s a limited version of your personal computer group policy.
