Cyber Crime In Businesses Increases

It has recently been brought to our attention that many small as well as medium sized businesses have been victims of cyber crime at one point or another. This information has been obtained from a survey which has been conducted. Symantec Corporation recently compiled a survey and the results showed that over fifty six per cent of Australian businesses had been affected by cyber crime.

One of the most alarming factors to take into account is that the survey helped to reveal that fifty two per cent of respondents were actually from malicious software which has been created by deceptive cybercriminals.

According to the managing director for the Pacific region Craig Scroggie, he claimed in a statement: “Cybercrime is a warranted concern for Australian small and medium businesses,” He also claimed that “In 2009, Symantec identified more than 240 million distinct new malicious programs globally, a 100 per cent increase over 2008.”

Symantec also added:”Assuming each employee receives 20 spam emails each business day and works 225 days a year, respondents are collectively having to find time to delete nearly 250,000 spam emails a year, “This is a very large number and is going to create many problems for the future.

According to Symantec the way to protect your business would be by educating all the members of your staff with regard to cyber crime. It may also be suggested that you develop certain security policies as well as developing comprehensive security solutions. At the end of the day it is going to be within every working environments best interest to take computer security seriously in order to not become the next victim.
