You need to make sure that they really are from your bank as this is another tactic that online criminals adopt.

You also should not check email when you are in states of intoxication or extremely tired. The reason for this is that when people are extremely tired or intoxicated they may not be thinking clearly and have more chance of clicking on malicious links in emails. At the end of the day taking the time and effort to take the necessary precautions will really pay off in the long run.
