Europe gets Windows 7 without browser
According to a Microsoft Corp. (NASDEQ:MSFT), Windows 7 will be released (tentatively scheduled for release in
October 2009) in Europe, but without the Internet Explorer Web browser.
“This means that computer manufacturers and users will be free to install Internet Explorer on Windows 7, or not, as they prefer” Dave Heiner, Microsoft’s deputy general counsel said.
With Windows operating on approximately more than 90 percent of the world’s computers, breaching the European antitrust rules, EU regulators oppose Microsoft’s bundling practices – where one piece of software is included free with another piece of software (as was suggested by The Wall Street Journal).
To abide with the EU regulations, Microsoft has agreed to offer Internet Explorer separately.
