It has recently been brought to the general online public’s attention that the popular Facebook game called Farm Town 
is infected. There are currently nine million users which means that nine million people’s computers run the risk of becoming infected. Hundreds of Farm Town players have reported that they have seen the ads which claim that your computer system is infected and that you can only fix it by running certain antivirus software according to a particular forum.
According to Graham Clueley who is a senior technology consultant at Sophos: “”It may not be Farm Town’s fault that a third-party advertising network is serving up malicious ads, but doing anything less is surely showing a careless disregard for the safety of its players,”. He also claimed: “Until the makers of Farm Town resolve the problem of malicious adverts, my advice to its fans would be to stop playing the game and ensure that their computer is properly defended with up-to-date security software.”
The developer of Farm Town is actually warning users to ignore the ads which are received or pop ups, no matter what the circumstances may be. This method of infecting computers is being used all over social networking sites and all over the internet. The ads are actually the malicious work from deceptive advertisers who trick various advertising networks into distributing these malicious banner ads.
The method which is used by these malicious rogues is that they will make you believe you have various infections running on your computer system. You will then get convinced that the only way to remove these infections is to download something or purchase a full version. It is basically one big scam which has been created by malicious online criminals with the intention of stealing your money and causing you many unwanted computer problems.
The factor that this rogue is using Facebook and particularly Farm Town is an indication that online criminals are started to use more and more tactics in order to reach a wider audience. All Facebook users need to be aware of any ads that ask them to download anything as the chances are that this is fake software designed by malicious online criminals.
