Five Features We Want to See in Firefox

November 26, 2009 Software Review

It will not come as a surprise to you that the familiar Mozilla Firefox browser has recently changed. The internet firefox_vs_internet_explorer_by_blackwolf454browsers are in huge competition with each other. Although the new Mozilla Firefox browser has improved dramatically, there are still some improvements that can be made. Here are my suggestions for the future of Mozilla Firefox

The Big Stuff

Let me start with the five features:

1. Better Memory Management

Firefox could improve its memory functionality in order to be able to handle everything better. This would then ultimately improve the overall web browser. I have had so many of my friends complain to me that the memory of Mozilla Firefox seems to be out of control at the best of times. This gets extremely annoying for the majority of Mozilla Firefox users. If the browser could just keep up with its skyrocketing memory footprint and if everything could just improve, this will make a better and fast Mozilla Firefox Browser.

2. Syncing of Everything

Yes I do believe Mozilla has done a great job with regard to password history, bookmarks, as well as the syncing of their tabs, but there is so much more that could adaquately be done. I personally would love to see some extension syncing, which would just add to the benefits of the Mozilla Firefox Browser. It would be awesome if all you needed to do was press one key and all your tabs, settings, add ons, as well as bookmarks could get transfered to another computer. I would love to see this level of everything working together.

3. Backwards Compatibility for Extensions

The big problem for me is that every time I am forced to turn off compatibility, checking in new releases of Mozilla Firefox so that my old extensions will actually work with the new release, even though they haven’t specifically been updated for it. This happens to me every time that Mozilla Firefox updates and it would be cool if all my extensions could actually actively update automatically, without any problems.

4. A Tool to Diagnose Bad Extensions

In my opinion I could clearly state that the memory problems, which I experience from Mozilla Firefox are due to bad extensions. These extensions seem to be killing the memory and causing my computer to slow down dramatically. I don’t enjoy any of this at all and wish that Mozilla Firefox would consider fixing this problem. It would be very cool if Mozilla Firefox could provide an additional small box, which could display the amount of memory everything is using. This will help dramatically in cases where I am not sure what is causing the memory problems, as I tend to work with many tabs open simultaneously, whilst utilizing Mozilla Firefox.

5. Tab Isolation à la Google Chrome

I know that Mozilla Firefox may already be working on this problem, but it still gets to me. When I saw Chrome for the first time I was fascinated at how each tab was a separate process and didn’t cause the entire browser to crash dramatically. It would be great to be able to see the content processes which are being used within the Mozilla Firefox browser.

Bonus Gripes

In addition to these five that I have told you about, here is some more annoying stuff that Firefox could change:

•    I want to see spellchecker suggestions that include items in your custom dictionary
•    I would love to see the keyword field in the regular bookmark dialog. This would be awesome.
•    I really would love to be able to right click on bookmarks which are inside folders. I would also like to edit and delete them in the operating system.
