How to restore the Run command in Windows 7
September 29, 2010 Windows 7 Tips
Windows 7 is indeed taking the computing world by storm – as it comes fully packed with all sorts of neat and innovative new features.
However, one thing lacking is the Run command, which is no longer a default in Windows 7, as it was in Windows XP. Instead, Windows 7 provides a Windows 7 Search bar.
All is not lost though, as there is a way to get the Run command back on Windows 7. Red on for instructions on how to do just that.
*Right click on the >Windows 7 Taskbar<
*Select >Properties<
*In the >Taskbar and Start Menu Properties< dialog box, click >Start< followed by >Customize<
* As soon as the >Customize Start Menu< dialog box appears, scroll down and select the check box next to the >Run Command<. Click >Ok<
* Click on >Apply< in the >Taskbar and Start Menu Properties< dialog box, and then select >Ok<
* The >Run command< will now be available on the >Start< menu
Now that you have successfully reinstated Run onto your Windows 7 operating system, you can use the Run dialog box to run Control Panel tools and Windows utilities and applications.
Below is a list of rather useful commands:
- APPWIZ.CPL – Opens Add or Remove Programs utility
- COMPMGMT.MSC – Opens the Computer Management tool
- CHARMAP – Opens the Character Map
- TASKMGR – Opens the Windows Task Manager
- CMD – Opens a Command Prompt window
