How to Setup Wireless Access Points on Windows 7

December 29, 2009 Windows 7 Tips

Have you ever had times when you had to share a certain wireless connection, because I know that this has happened to me numerous amounts of times? This situation could happen, when you are using the awesome new Windows 7, there is a way that you can solve this particular problem.

Connectify is currently in beta but it works. It is awesome because it goes as far as being to completely transform any Windows 7 pc and laptops, with the use of these commonplace wireless network adapters.

It really is giving this a try because it helped me and I just have a feeling deep inside that it can also help you too. It seriously is awesome and I love fixing problems which I may have or in this case finding solutions to specific computer problems which I may have. I am learning slowly but surely that there is a way around everything and that it all can be rectified if you find the correct tool. In this case Connectify is the answer for me, and it can be the answer for you too!

Setting up connectify is very easy.

Should the Connectify icon be missing in the notification area, click the up arrow pointer to display additional icons. Activate the Connectify icon.

At first run, you expect error messages  because Connectify needs you to provide a passphrase. Navigate to the passphrase field and  enter at least eight characters for your access code. You don’t want just any Tom Dick and Harry freeloading on your connectivity, right?  Luckily, Connectify offers WPA2 AES encryption to bar undesirables.
Connectify will use Connectify as its SSID. It’s a simple matter to change this to something of your choice, like “Stay Away“, or “Just Try It“.

The beauty of the setup is that while  Connectify  shares a wired connection and a wireless connection; the application requires just one wireless adapter to make sharing work.

Now’s the easy part. Click the Hotspot Off button to activate the access point.

Client PCs, whether using XP, Vista or Linux merely  connects to the Connectify software access point using the same method to connect to any secure wireless access point that broadcasts its SSID:

  • Scan the environment.
  • Point at the SSID used by the network
  • Provide the passphrase when prompted
  • Make the connection

Once other gadgets have connected to the access point, the host PC lists the computer connected to it via network names.

I hope that this works out for, I seriously wish you all the best of luck in getting this together and making it work, it really is worth it in the end. Take care everyone till next time.
