How to use Windows Live Mail 2011 with Hotmail

Over the years, Microsoft has developed a cloud based computing strategy. This strategy’s purpose is to allow users to make use of Microsoft products anywhere, anytime. One of these products is centered on email and the web. It also involves using Hotmail and Windows Live Mail.

This is due to Windows Live Mail, the product that comes bundled for free with the Windows Life Essentials suite is actually only a front for Hotmail, or any other web based email application including Gmail and Yahoo, etc. In order for the user to use this application he needs to sign in to his Hotmail account or other web based email account, and will then be able to share the same message base.

You will be able to use whichever product you want, whenever you want. If you were to compose a message in Windows Live Mail, then you can send it while then immediately jump over to your Hotmail account and you will notice it in your sent items.

The point is that any message sent or received in Windows Live Mail when it is configured to run in tandem with the Hotmail account, will be exactly mirrored in your Hotmail account, and vice-versa.

The good news is that Windows Live Mail will default to running as a Hotmail front end. In order to use another type of web based email application then you will need to enter setup and alter the settings there.

There is also something else you can do in order to configure Windows Live Mail and Hotmail. Co9nfigure Windows Live Mail so as to be able to service more than one Hotmail account. For instance, if you have two Hotmail account and you would like to see all your messages in the Windows Live mail application from both Hotmail accounts at the same time. You can do this by clicking on the Accounts tab on the main menu.

Then click on the email tab and you will get the following popup message. Simply type in the name and password for your second Hotmail account, and then click on the Next button. You should get a message that tells you that it is working, and then when it finishes you will get the following message:

“Your email account was added”

Click on the Home tab to see both accounts. You will notice now that you have more than one inbox, along with all the folders you’d come to expect for each email account. If you were to click on the inboxes, then click on start and send a new email, then Windows Live Mail will recognize which account you want and send your message from that account.
