Internet Security: Know your URL’s before you click on it!
July 27, 2009 Computer Safety Tip
Internet Security is highly important! Just as important to the Internet – or rather quite quintessential to the Internet
are: URLs.
Why you might wonder?
Well – URL’s are basically the gateways, or highways and bi-ways of the Internet Community, i.e. it is through URLs that we are able to navigate our way from one website to another.
This very fact only translates into a possible huge threat to the Internet community, as the URL will determine where the user lands up, ultimately – so if we do not get into the habit of checking the destination of URLs before we click on them, we could all very likely land up on dubious and malicious websites, without realizing so…
So, how would one go about checking the URL destination?
One needs to simply enable the Status Bar on your current browser. You may find that the Status Bar has already been enabled, as this feature is a usual factory default.
All one needs to do now, is ensure that one gets into the habit of checking at the bottom right hand corner of each window, simply hover your cursor over the URL, and check what the Status Bar indicates, then you will be sure to know what the URL’s destination is. The trick is to out-do the dubious miscreants out there – if you are aware of the Url destination, chances are you will not land on a dubious websites by mistake, this way eliminating a huge security risk.
Remember, you heard it here first!
