New application for searching images in Google

July 31, 2009 Computer News

When searching an image on Google, one would have traditionally utilise the Google Image Search. The results of which__Doodle_4_Google___by_Akanei_Rin would generally be based on tags and search strings assocaited with the images. There was never a means to compare or process the image itself and determine whether the image matches similarly to other ones, that is up until now!
Google had addressed this image issue, and in the form of a new development from Google Labs: the Similar Images service, this problem may be a thing of the past.
To begin searching for similar images, open the site:
http://similar-images.googlelabs.com
Initialy you will need to insert a text search, and almost immdeiately you will see images appear, and most imporatntly, images which are similar. You will then be able to choose an image you prefer, and then narrow down the search to those which look similar to the desired image.
All you need do is pick an image you want as a reference, then click the ‘similar images’ link. All images determined by Google as similar will be returned as search results. The important difference here is that the images returned will actually resemble each other by what’s physically in the image.
This new tool is wonderful for finding those hidden images one never even knew existed.
Since this application makes use of pictures instead of text, to search for images, changes the paradignm drastically, making it that much easier for us, the end user!
Thanks Google!
