OpenCloud Antivirus: New rogue – same problems
August 30, 2011 Computer Safety Tip
The same criminal developers of OpenCloud Antivirus have improved on their previous design of Wolfram Antivirus in the
way OpenCloud Antivirus enters and roots itself in its victims’ PCs. A more aggressive online marketing campaign coupled with varying sophisticated infection methods such as seditious browser hijackers makes it even more difficult for users to delete OpenCloud Antivirus. The rogue purports to protect the system against malware threats and infections, but OpenCloud Antivirus does not have the ability to protect the system from any threats.
OpenCloud Antivirus’ infection of the system is performed so clandestinely that the user is not even aware of its presence on the system until it is too late. The first clue the user will have of OpenCloud Antivirus will come from a falsely generated security scan of the system. This scan was designed to seem legitimate, purporting to cover aspects of PC security such as the Firewall, Privacy and Security.
After the fake scan completes, OpenCloud Antivirus will spam the user with various fake security alerts, one which reads as follows:
Windows Security Center
Serious security vulnerabilities were detected on this computer. Your privacy and personal data may be unsafe. Do you want to protect your PC?
The user will then be prompted to pay $52.95 for an OpenCloud Antivirus license, with an optional lifetime license for additional $9.95. Never pay for an OpenCloud Antivirus product.
In an effort to further panic and annoy the user, OpenCloud Antivirus will prevent him from launching any application on the system, generating this alert each time the user attempts to execute an application:
Warning!
The file “taskmgr.exe” is infected. Running of application is impossible.
Please activate your antivirus software.
To stop this and the many other annoying symptoms associated with the OpenCloud Antivirus infection, enter this activation key:

Although not advisable unless you are experienced in performing manual removals, you can manually remove OpenCloud Antivirus by killing these processes:
wskinn.exe
OpenCloud Antivirus.exe
C:\Program Files\csrss.exe
OpenCloud Antivirus is a maliciously fake application unable and unwilling to live up to any of its fake promises. Use a powerful security tool to permanently erase OpenCloud Antivirus and restore your PC’s security and privacy.
