Running Games for Windows 95 on Windows XP
December 16, 2009 Computer Tips And Tricks
I love playing old games; some of the games truly were a classic. I love my Doom and Counterstrike games, as well as
many older games. I seriously think that even though the graphics are insane in the newer games, sometimes they are actually too complicated. I like the older games because they are familiar to me and I know what I am dealing with. I also find them simpler and easier to play. I think some of these new games have gone too far and it is now more about the graphics and stuff as opposed to the strategy of the game. Anyway that is just my opinion of course.
I know that just like me some of you may be wondering how to run games which were geared towards older operating systems on your new operating system. I wondered this and I actually at one stage was very frustrated but I was able to eventually find a solution to my problem, which I would very much like to share with all of you. I hope that this is going to help you.
Considering the factor that operating systems are advancing, especially now with the new Windows 7 on the market, many people may still want to play the classic old games. Here is the way, which I have personally discovered on how to player the older games which you love on a newer system.
Is there a way to play games requiring Windows 95 on windows XP?
In your specific situation, we’ll look at how to run a game for Windows 95 on Windows XP:
1. Find the Executable (.exe) file of the program you are trying to run.
2. Right click on the file and choose “properties.”
3. Click the tab that says “compatibility.”
4. Check “Run this program in compatibility mode for”
^The default OS should be Windows 95- perfect for your situation
5. Click Apply, and double click the .exe file.
I hope that this helps you like it helped me. Don’t give up playing the older games as they truly are classics.
