Slow Shutdown Problems

It is fairly ordinary for Windows Vista to shutdown slowly sometimes, this can be for a variety of reasons, i.e. headacheinstalling updates, crashed applications or driver problems. If this happens for frequently, it specifies that this problem should not be happening and is worth troubleshooting.
Start by loading the event viewer eventvwr.mse from the run box (press WINDOWS KEY + R to start this. Once event viewer as loaded, browse to Applications and Services>Windows>Diagnostics-Performance>Operational. Once complete, it will display any noteworthy events in the centre panel. You can scroll through events occuring at the time of a slow shut to see which applications or services caused a slowness (look for “Shutdown Performance Monitoring” under the “Task Category” tab. Once you have concluded which services or applications are causing the problem, you can then google for more information to diagnose each item individually. Patching or updating drives can often improve these issues.
