Spam notifications or actual spam? How to tell the difference…

April 14, 2010 Computer Safety Tip

The latest tactic employed by Spam creators are to disguise their spam messages as spam quarantine messages now, so it will appear that you are receiving a notification about an inundation of spam messages, urging you to quarantine these spam messages, when in actual fact- the notifications themselves may very well be the spam they are talking about!

When one takes a look at the spam notification, it appears quite legitimate, but one should pay special attention to the fact that this tactic is a mere scam, and will only bombard your system with malicious content. What te spammers rely on is the user’s curiosity, as it even mentions in the notification to ignore the message if they think its spam – this will undoubtedly assure the use that the notification is not fake – but actually it is.

Although the makers of such scams are qutie efficient – one can usually check to see if it is a scam by double checkign on the sender’s email account. If the domain name that the message has been sent from does nto add up as a security related firm, etc – then chances are the notification is false- and should be deleted immediately!
