Windows 7 Anti-virus

February 18, 2009 Windows 7 Tips

Windows 7 will pester you to install security and point specifically to security providers AVG, Kaspersky and vista_7_1Symantec. Kaspersky has announced that their technical prototype of Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows 7 will “provide greater efficiency and complex anti-virus protection for the new operating system”.

Microsoft mentions that there won’t be any compatibility problems in going from Vista to Windows 7, nothing like going from XP to Vista. Security programs in particular were hard-pressed to work with User Account Control and other Vista security enhancements. These dilemma’s should have been solved, why need security that’s specifically oriented to Windows 7?

Kaspersky’s stated that they did not release a new version of Windows 7. Windows 7 is in beta and they enhanced the current version of their corporate solution to take advantage of the new features of Windows 7 and released it as a technical prototype. The changes to existing solution were minor and were done to ensure an easy migration for their customers from the XP or Vista’s OS’s to Windows 7.

Symantec offers a free beta of Norton 360 version 3 to those running Windows 7 beta. Using a free public beta security product on your free public operating systems doesn’t report any serious changes required for Windows 7 compatibility.

CEO of AVG mentioned that they will be monitoring the Windows 7 development so as to make full use of some of the improvements that might still make it into the final release.

Vendors aren’t fighting to force their software into agreement with underlying changes to the operating system. They are rather sailing around with only minimal changes.
